Raquel Montoya, LSW



Raquel is a Spanish-speaking social worker who always knew she was meant to be a social worker. She attended the University of St. Francis (Joliet, IL), where she obtained both her Bachelors and Masters in Social Work. Throughout her education, she had the opportunity to work in several settings, including child welfare, community outreach, immigration, and criminal justice. 


She began working her career in outpatient substance use/mental health where she found her love for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. She is currently a Licensed Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor who works for the Department of Corrections, providing substance use and mental health services to those currently incarcerated. Her current occupation has helped her understand the harshness of the criminal justice system. She is able to see the potential of all the individuals she works with. Her experience with the Department of Corrections has helped her develop immense empathy, compassion, and understanding for all individuals, regardless of differences. Raquel is experienced in working with individuals struggling with mental health illnesses and substance use disorders. 


Clinical approaches and treatment modalities include: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
